School Success Stories
Real examples of how our tutoring programmes have helped schools achieve their goals
Year 11 Maths Intervention
“The NSEMM tutoring programme helped 15 of our Year 11 students who were at risk of not achieving grade 4 in Maths. After 10 weeks of small group sessions, 12 students achieved grade 4 or above. The tutors were fantastic – really understood our students.”
Head of Mathematics, Manchester Secondary School
A-Level Science Boost
“Our partnership with NSEMM for A-Level Chemistry tutoring has been transformational. Students who were struggling are now confident and achieving their target grades. The university tutors bring a fresh perspective that really resonates with our sixth formers.”
Sixth Form Director, Yorkshire Academy
Post-NTP Sustainability
“After the National Tutoring Programme ended, we needed a sustainable solution that wouldn’t disappear when funding changed. NSEMM’s approach means we can continue providing quality tutoring without worrying about sudden price increases or programme cancellations.”
Assistant Head, Greater Manchester Academy
Live Cover Sessions Success
“NSEMM’s live cover sessions have been a game-changer for us. When we have unexpected staff absences, instead of passive worksheets, our students get real teaching from qualified tutors. It’s transformed how we handle cover – students actually look forward to these sessions now.”
How are you a non-profit if you charge for tutoring?▼
We’re a registered charity regulated by the Charity Commission. We charge only what it costs to deliver fairly – paying our tutors up to £13.68/hour and covering essential overheads like DBS checks, safeguarding training, and admin support. We have no shareholders and extract no profits. Every pound is reinvested into educational programmes and expanding access. We use a cross-subsidy model where those who can afford the full rate help fund free places for those who can’t. Read more about our charitable mission and values.
How much does school tutoring cost?▼
Our school tutoring is £18 per hour for small group sessions – lower than most competitors. While we’re non-profit, we pay our tutors fairly and need income to sustain operations. Unlike other providers, we reinvest ALL surplus into tutor training, quality assurance, and wider educational support rather than shareholder profits. We’ll work with your budget, including reducing the cost per hour if needed – we don’t treat tutoring as a profit opportunity.
What subjects do you cover?▼
We provide tutoring across all major GCSE and A-Level subjects including Maths, English, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Psychology, and more. We can also support with university entrance exams like UCAT, BMAT, and Oxbridge preparation.
How do you ensure tutor quality?▼
All tutors are current university students with excellent academic records (A*/A grades or equivalent) in their subject areas. They undergo enhanced DBS checks, safeguarding training, and a comprehensive interview process. We provide ongoing support and monitor session quality through regular feedback and progress tracking.
Can you work around our school timetable?▼
Absolutely! We’re completely flexible and can deliver sessions during lesson time, after school, during lunch breaks, or on weekends. We work with your existing schedule and can adapt session timing throughout the programme as needed.
Do you provide online or in-person tutoring?▼
We offer both options depending on your school’s preferences and location. Many schools prefer in-person sessions for enhanced engagement, while others appreciate the flexibility of online delivery. We can also provide a hybrid approach with both formats within the same programme.
How do you track and report on progress?▼
We provide detailed session reports after each tutoring session, regular progress summaries, and comprehensive programme evaluations. This includes academic progress tracking, confidence measures, and qualitative feedback from both students and tutors. Reports can be customised to match your school’s monitoring requirements.
What’s the minimum commitment for a programme?▼
We typically recommend a minimum of 6-8 weeks for meaningful impact, but we can work with shorter intensive programmes or longer-term partnerships depending on your needs. We’re happy to start with a pilot programme to demonstrate value before committing to larger initiatives.
Can you provide cover lessons and extra-curricular sessions?▼
Yes! We offer live online subject sessions that can be used during cover lessons or extra-curricular time. These are supervised by your school staff and can be pre-booked or arranged at short notice once registered. Unlike passive cover work, these are curriculum-aligned sessions covering topics your staff choose – far more cost-effective than supply teachers and all sessions are recorded.
How do you select which students receive tutoring?▼
Student selection is entirely up to your school based on your priorities and criteria. We can support with assessment tools or recommendations, but the final decision always rests with school staff who know their students best. Common approaches include targeting borderline students, catch-up support, or stretch and challenge programmes.
